Sail Away Sailing School is an approved sail training centre and on successful completion of your course you will be awarded an official Yachting Australia (Australian Yachting Federation) certificate.
Our A.Y.F. accredited instructors have over 30 years sea experience. We conduct the following courses:
 Introductory Course
Competent Crew Course
Inshore Skipper Course
Coastal Skipper Course
Offshore Skipper and Yachtmaster Instructor Course
The competent crew course has a further classroom theory component - two evenings of three hours each. This is required for students who have not completed a navigational course e.g. TAFE Coastal Navigation. Cost $80.
All courses are conducted close to Brisbane onboard the comfortable and sturdy 42 foot sloop Lady Katherine.

Introductory Course
Duration:16 hours over two days.
Syllabus includes: yacht rigging, sailing theory, basic knots, right-of-way rules, finding wind direction, steering, sail trim, tacking and gybing, nautical terminology and much more.
You will be awarded and AYF certificate on completion.
Cost: 2 days - $110 per day ($220)
Competent Crew Course
Duration: 27 hours over three days plus six hours of theory spread over two evenings in a classroom. (for students who have no navigational experience)
Syllabus includes re-inforcement of all subjects covered in the Introductory Course as well as: navigation plotting and fixing, tides, anchoring, man overboard drills, reefing, safety aspects.
You will be awarded and AYF certificate on successful completion of the course.
Cost: 3 days - $120 per day ($360) plus $80 theory
Inshore Skipper Course
Duration: 6 days.
Theory: 8 evenings.
Syllabus includes all the necessary skills to make you a self-sufficient skipper: Perparation for sailing, navigation, boat handling, leadership, command, crew organisation, emergency procedures.
Prior to the award of this sought after AYF certificate the examiner will have to ask himself - "Would I let this person have my boat for a day as skipper?"
Cost: $125 per day (min 6 days)
Coastal Skipper Course
Duration
This is dependent on individual assessment and previous experience. We normally sail offshore towards Fraser Is return in 3-4 days.
Syllabus
Further extension of your practical experience previously gained in inshore waters. All the necessary navigation and boat handling to make you a competent skipper in Coastal Waters.
Cost - $170 per day
Award
You will be awarded an AYF Coastal Skipper certificate on successful completion of this course (subject to having completed all theory prerequisites).
Offshore Skipper and Yachtmaster Instructor Course
In conjunction with Queensland Yachting we offer Offshore Skipper Course; an Offshore Skipper-pre exam-refresher course and also the well respected and sought after Yachtmaster Instructor Course.
